A bariatric stairlift is a heavy duty model designed for people who need a higher weight capacity than a standard stairlift provides. If you or someone in your household requires a stairlift with a safe working load above the standard 120kg (19 stone), a bariatric model is the right choice.
At Thornbury Stairlifts, we supply and install bariatric stairlifts in both straight and curved configurations across Bristol, Bath, Gloucester, Cheltenham and the Southwest. Our engineers have over 26 years of experience and can advise you on the most suitable model for your staircase and requirements.
Specifications
Our bariatric range covers safe working loads of 25 stone (approximately 160kg) and 30 stone (approximately 190kg). The seat height and arm width are adjustable to provide a comfortable and secure fit for the user.
All models are battery powered, which means they continue to work during a power cut. Straight and curved options are available depending on your staircase layout.

Frequently asked questions

Is a bariatric stairlift available as a curved model? Yes. We supply bariatric stairlifts in both straight and curved configurations. Your engineer will advise which is appropriate for your staircase during the free home survey.
How is a bariatric stairlift different from a standard model? A bariatric stairlift uses a heavier duty motor and carriage to safely support greater weight. The seat and armrests are also wider and adjustable to provide a more comfortable fit.
Do bariatric stairlifts look different from standard models? The overall appearance is similar to a standard stairlift. The main differences are in the engineering and load-bearing components rather than the outward design.
