A curved twin tube stairlift is designed for staircases that have a bend, a landing, or an unusual angle that a standard straight stairlift cannot follow. The rail is made to measure for your specific staircase, which means it fits precisely and leaves the stairs as clear as possible for other members of the household.
Thornbury Stairlifts has been supplying and installing curved stairlifts across Bristol, Bath, Gloucester and the Southwest since 1999. We carry out a full survey of your staircase before recommending any product and all quotes are provided free of charge.
Specifications
The standard model has a safe working load of up to 120kg (19 stone). A heavy duty model is also available with a safe working load of 160kg (25 stone).
The twin tube rail system uses mechanical self-levelling to keep the chair upright on steep or angled sections of the staircase. A manual swivel seat is fitted as standard and a powered swivel seat is available as an optional extra. Powered folding footrests and powered or manual folding hinged rails can also be added depending on your staircase layout.
The system can accommodate internal bends, external bends, or a combination of both.
Made to measure
Unlike straight stairlifts, curved models are bespoke. The rail is manufactured specifically for your staircase based on measurements taken during our free home survey. Lead times are typically a few weeks from order to installation.
Stand or perch options
For people who find it difficult to bend their knees fully when sitting, we offer stand or perch seating as an alternative to the standard seat. Our engineer can advise you on which option is most comfortable during the home visit.

Frequently asked questions
How is a curved stairlift different from a straight one? A curved stairlift uses a bespoke rail made to the exact shape of your staircase. A straight stairlift uses a standard rail that only works on a staircase with no bends or turns.
How long does it take to get a curved stairlift installed? The rail is made to measure so there is a manufacturing lead time after the survey. Your engineer will give you an estimated installation date at the time of order.
Can a curved stairlift go around a 90 degree turn? Yes. The twin tube system can accommodate most staircase configurations including 90 and 180 degree bends and intermediate landings.
What weight can a curved stairlift carry? The standard model carries up to 120kg (19 stone). A heavy duty version is available for up to 160kg (25 stone).
